Jeff,
I only saw a couple of ?s. How are you attaching the pulleys to the
shafts? I have been successful with smaller pulleys setscrewed to motor
shafts but only with a touch of locktite. The larger pulley I would go for a
clamp or split taper lock like the Fenner stuff etc. The other one is that
you appear to be using non preloaded ballnuts. You will need to keep the drag
rather high on the gibs or the cutter will grab the part once in a while.
Backlash can be solved with software to a degree but the "grab" part is
tough. If you got these addressed already, forgive me since I did not see it
in the photo's. Otherwise, really nice. I still have not finished my RF-45
mill. Similar to yours...
