Servo vs stepper on a mini-mill conversion

I'm trying to decide between using G340s with servo motors, or
using G210/s with stepper motors on a taig mill.
Is there a noticable improvement with servo's that are being driven
with step/direction pulses? Would the steps cause the motor to rachet
just like a stepper? Will it be any smoother?
I have used steppers with both Gecko and Pacsci drives in the past
without any problems. Is it as easy to setup a Servo/drive
combination? Is it difficult to tune the system?
Thanks to the geckos the is almost no price difference between using
steppers or servos. But I would like to hear more from people that
have used the servo setups.
I was planning to run the machine with Master5.
Sincerely,
Paul Rooney
