Doug,

The hydraulig thing produces a force of 12000 kiloponds (capable of
lifting 12 thousand kilograms) at 10 bars. One kilopond is equivalent to
7.23 foot-pounds. Nowadays we Europeans use Newtons and Pascals, or at
least we're supposed to...

I'd guess that machine is not very new, perhaps from the sixties?
