Fitch,
I have several Tapmatics among other tapping heads. I have yet to
see any of them that'll tap as large a hole as they're rated. My
1/2" capacity units are good for 3/8"-16 on a good day, maybe. Keep
us posted on how well yours function.
BTW, for you and others....try to get a copy of the Greenfield Screw
Thread Manual. Gives an easy to read listing of the common inch
threads up through 1". Tap drill sizes are listed by length of
thread engagement and by percentage of thread. They used to give
them away at trade shows, last I heard they were $10 (well worth it).
