I doubt there is a measurable difference all other things being equal.

You require a good thermal contact between the heatsink and the heat
source. A conservative amount of compund is all that is required
since its prupose is to fill in the microscopic peaks and valleys of
the mating surfaces. Silver paste is great but others work well too.

Copper takes heat away better, but aluminum dissipates heat better.
The best heatsinks I have used have a copper contact area mated to an
aluminum sink. That's getting to be overkill for the Geckos unless
you are running them at the ragged edge of their capacity.

I run my Geckos at 2A without heatsinks (although they do mate
against the wall of a thin metal case, and I did use zinc heatsink
compound) and they are barely get warm to the touch even after
extended use.
