once you have the hardware you have to find some unused input port
pins to hook it to ,2 bits for the encoder and at a minimum 1 bit each
for increment select and axis select (these could also be handled thru
keyboard functions) I'd prefer a few more bits for rotary switches with
knobs but I'm realy starting to warm up to Alan's use of buttons to cycle
thru a list of settings ,nice and simple and it fits everything on the game
ports four button inputs
now that the hardware is connected to the game port a small software
module can be called when entering jog mode to poll the gameport for
changes and send a jog command message to the motion module on the
actions it reads (select axis ,set jog increment ,jog incremental)
these can be OR'd (sp?) in the software so you could still use the keyboard
functions that you already have
put the hardware in a small project box with a cord and it might look
something very much like this
