If you meant my comments, connect encoder A & B pins to the two 'X'
switch inputs, and two PB's to the two 'Y' switch inputs. 1K pullup
resistors may be needed on these four lines. 5V is available to power
the encoder. The other half of it is the code! Your controller
software will need a simple routine to read the encoder, and issue moves
of various sizes, from a single step to perhaps .2 inches. Similarity,
each push of the axis or move size pb's selects another axis or distance
from an appropriate table.

I know of no shipping (hobby) software that implements what I am
experimenting with.
