|True, but when MACHINING something, a difference of 10 µS to 10 nS per
|byte-manipulation is rather irrelevant!

Agreed that it takes a while for the machine to move, which can be an
eternity for a computer, but I'd be concerned with systems that are running
slow processors being compromised. Remember, the original AT was a 6 Mhz
machine and even today's 1.6 GHz Pentiums still have to contend with a
relatively slow memory and I/O bus. If you're talking about an interpreted
human interface and some high speed assembly language loops, then it's a
different story.
