This last line indicates you are not running Xwindows, so Xemc and TkEMC
user interfaces can't be used. There is still the old keystick interface that
uses the plain "tty" terminal. You might be able to start Xwindows with the
command startx. You also need to be logged in as root, or with root privledges,
or have set all the parts of EMC to be able to have root privledges, as it
takes control of certain hardware in the system.

The bad image file emc.gif may be spurious, as that is the "splash screen",
but it can't be displayed without Xwindows, either.
