Hi, not being a chemist i can give you some information from the work i did
molding rubber. a common mistake- says glued we think of epoxy and usually
forget about many other forms such as Urethane. you can "glue" two pieces of
clean metal together with "fast urethane" commonly used to reset a car
windshield. The result will be a flexible tough joint, and the only way to
get the urethane off is to grind it. that stuff is tough. I believe you
would find the "glue" used might be one of the Urethane family of rubbers.
I also think you would find the price far beyond what the hobbiest would
