Hello Bruce.
It is a good point, but I do not believe much in it.
8 or 10 years ago There was somebody who wanted to assemble brass racks
and furniture by gluing. We got all highly recommended glue types and
cleaning solvents available to that time. 2 types worked out well....
for a couple of month! As soon the brass got humid we got corrosion
crawling in between the glue and the brass. The units literally fell
apart!
Nowadays might be there is better stuff. But glue generally does not
like light, vibration and corrosion (Salt!) So in 10 15 years these
lovely toys might simply fall apart. (OT-comment: I remember a lady from
Luxembourg driving a rental car who wasn't aware that she sat in a
Ferrari!- She liked the car but gave it back because of the high gas
bill! Happened so 1988 in L.A.)
To keep on topic: We have now milling machines out of artificial
concrete that work well (and are pretty cheap because of little ageing
time and taiwan made) . So might be that some day there might be a glued
machine too. That will be tough times for this "cast iron" Peter
Good luck
