Re: Why is my feedrate slow with stepper motor

Hi Jerry,

I started with an Enco drilling table and replaced the hand cranks
with 50 oz/in stepping motors. I first mounted the table on my
antique Shopsmith ER-10 and used the drill spindle as the Z. I've
since mounted the bable on the BACK of the shopsmith and added a Z
axis with a 1/4 hp Dewalt version of a rotozip. I set up a way to
easliy dismount both the z axis and the table when I need the
shopsmith.

The setup works well in wood and soft metals, It struggles in steel.

Driver is a home made affair isalizing alegro 5804 chips and an old
PC power supply. I laid out and burned by own PC board.

When I started, my goal was if I could just mill a sugar cube (or
wax) I would be happy.

I'm trying to keep costs low. To date I've invested about $400
total, including motors, table, spindle and mics.
