I have used 36, 250 HP motors, with softstart on a 13 mile conveyor line, and
I feel that they have little to recommend them for most applications. The
current to the motors can go thru the roof when you are starting them, and if
anything faults while attempting to start them they can blow parts like
popcorn popping.
Stick with the VFD's you will be much happier.
