Hi,

I have an old phase converter that my miller is running off and apart from
having to work a switch on motor start it does the job. The problem was the
control electronics in the new machine I am having delivered tomorrow. It is
a Harrison 280 CNC Trainer that will also run manual. All of the electronics
run from the 3 phase input and I wasn't sure if it was wise keeping the
converter I have or building one from a motor. Either way the converter will
run a 20 hp motor and I have a 10 hp motor doing nothing which could be
used.

| I have built a phase converter (it worked just fine) and then I bought a
| VFD. I am much happier with the VFD than with the phase converter. Not
only
| does the VFD handle the phase conversion, but it lets me ramp up and ramp
| down the mill so that when it starts there is no huge power draw and when
I
| shut it down it comes to a stop in about 1/4 of the time that it did with
| the phase converter.
