Brush DC servo not for contouring?

In a recent post to another news group I got the advice:
"I presume you will want to countour with this machine,
possibly at fairly high feedrates. If so, stay away from DC
brush-type servos since most are limited to 2300 to 3500
RPM"
Does this mean to contour I need high speed motors? To do general
high power milling and routing on a gantry, which type of motors
would be best.
