Umm. The slug is a unit of mass. One slug in a 1-g gravitational
field experiences a force of 32.17 lbf (pound force.) One lbm (pound
mass) in a 1-g field experiences a force of 1.0 lbf. So a slug is a
mass of 32.17 lbm. But you are absolutely right that the units of
torque are force times length. But lb and oz are legitimate units of
force (unlike gm and kg) though I do use lbf to distinguish when I
really mean force!!
Donald.
