Jack:
You can modify the MSDOS.SYS file to boot into DOS-7 immediately instead of
windows. MSDOS.SYS is a file in your root directory that has the system and
readonly attributes set, and possibly the hidden attribute as well.
First, bring up your MSDOS command line prompt.
Second, at the DOS prompt, enter the command attrib
msdos.sys -r -s -h<EnterKey>
Third, Edit the MSDOS.SYS file - Set the Option BOOTGUI to Zero. I've
included a copy of my MSDOS.SYS file as a model you can follow.
Once you've edited this file, you'll boot directly into DOS. You can load
the windows GUI by entering the command c:\windows\win.com<EnterKey> at the
command line prompt.
If you're running a DOS based CNC program, you may want to delete the
command that loads the EMM386 driver from the config.sys file. That like
looks something like:
Device=C:\Windows\EMM386.EXE NOEMS RAM HIGHSCAN
I've set up a menu system in config.sys to provide separate configurations,
based on what I want to do. Similarly, I also have edited my 4Start.BAT and
TCStart.BAT files (equivalent to AUTOEXEC.BAT for JPSoft's 4DOS and
TakeCommand32 commane line interpreters) to load eithe DOS or Windows as I
wish.
Hope this helps

|Gentlemen:
|I recently purchased a 133 MHz Pentium at a swap meet; it has Win 98,
|early version. Since I want to run my BASIC machine control program
|in DOS and don't want to wait for the Win to load up each time B4 I
|switch to DOS, is there a way to startup in DOS without using a boot
|disk? On this computer I will use Win infrequently. Must I change

|suggest?
|Thank you in advance,
