If this were true the maggies would lose their strength while waiting for
initial asm. Keepers indeed preserve magnetic strength, but w/o them the
loss is still very slow.

I'd think the inductance has nothing to do with the maggies.

Now that's a lot better!! I'm not reco-ing anyone break his steppers down,
but a few sheets of newspaper to work over would cure that problem.
