Check out my latest piece at:
http://members.rennlist.com/statmandesigns/CK008-Pair-Small.JPG
Each pattern is milled with a 2-flute ballnose endmill. The larger ring was
milled with a 0.020" endmill to a depth of 0.018" in three 0.006" passes.
The smaller ring was milled with a 0.015" endmill to a depth of 0.015" in
three 0.005" passes. I have the high speed spindle pulley set on my
Sherline mill and these were cut at the maximum spindle speed of 10,200 RPM.
It took about 4 hours of mill time to cut each ring. And I broke one 0.015"
cutter.
These rings are unfinished and will be anodized or enameled in the carving
to increase the contrast. The customer has not yet decided on a color for
this.
If anybody would like to design Celtic Knots or other interesting symmetric
designs that can repeat around a ring, I would be happy to pay for DXF
files, or G-Code files. Payment could be in cash or a free ring of the
style you designed. Please contact me off-list if you would like to design
some interesting patterns. Simple geometric patterns are not needed. I am
most interested in stylized Celtic Knots.
I use cutters from 1/32" down to 0.010", but only one size cutter per
design. The pattern should fit on a 6-8 mm wide ring.
Thanks for all of your help in getting me setup with my equipment, and your
future help with designs.
