I was looking up in the Carbaloy catalog to buy a new threading tool
insert when I can across the various methods of CNC threading. Some use
what is called the modified flank infeed, standard infeed, alternate
flank infeed, radial infeed. So now I understand how your controller
used a canned cycle for cutting the threads at less than 60 degrees. I
have deduces that my program just uses the radial infeed method.

Hi Dan,
The tool has a radius end which is not greater than the radius of the
minimum diameter of the thread. The control program knows the size of
the
tool and the control program does the rest. What seems to happen is the
tool
only cuts on the radius part and the thread is produced by multi-pass
contouring.
I can't check this for you, as the controller has just let some smoke
out,
but I could scan the pages from the manual if you require.

Terry
