I'm going to assume that you are using the KDE window manager.

Plug your modem into a serial port, start kppp and click setup. The acount
tab will let you enter your account info. The device tab will let you config
and test the modem. /dev/modem will usually do the trick but if not use
/dev/ttyS0 or whatever number the serial port is. Under the Modem tab you
can press Querry modem and it will attempt to connect and send the usual
modem control commands and report the feedback from the device.

If you issue the command kppp and your terminal says command not found, you
will need to install the kdenetworking rpm. On BDI 2.16 this is
kdenetwork-1.1.2-4.i386.rpm. It is on the CD in the /mnt/cdrom/RedHat/RPMS
directory. This package will also install several handy networking type
tools like kmail.
