In the old days, I used to use a Milwaukee 3/8" hole shooter with a
u-joint in the chuck. This was connected to the z axis lead screw of a
machine larger than the Sherline. You can tease the throttle and creap up to
a value on the DRO. Cheaper drills don't have the torque or the nice
trigger.
