You can buy these, but they are only good for moving microscope
stages and such light mechanisms.

Why should a motor require regulated power? The driver is in itself
a regulator.

Sure, if you made this board look like an ISA printer port, EMC
couldn't tell the difference. Of course, ISA slots have all but
disappeared from the current motherboards.
