Hi Peter;

Sorry to be slow on this, Adelphia seems to have stuck a bunch of
messages in a queue somewhere and just released them. :-(

LED pulls more power, but depending on the filter you put in front of
the display, can typically be seen easily over a larger range of viewing
angles and at a greater distance. You can have the display on a shelf
that has minimal illumination or tucked in a dark corner under a shelf,
whaetever works in your shop. I'm not suggesting that a shop should be
poorly lit by this, but the reality is that many of us have our tools
tucked in wherever we can fit them. My mill work area is well lit, but
the wall behind the mill has several cabinets and shelves mounted. A
display would fit best where there are shadows cast by these.

LCDs use less power, and you may find display modules available at an
attractive price. The digits often need to be larger than an LED
display for good viewing at the same distance. Many LCD displays are
prone to glare, so you may have less flexibility in where to mount your
display unit. If you need backlight or local illumination of the
display, the power saving may not be realized.

Cheers,
Stan
