The two windings of a phase must be in correct polarity. You can check
this with a flashlight battery across a set of phase windings. If the motor
shaft locks up, it is good. If the shaft gets a little stiff or lumpy, then you
have them out of phase. Once both phases pass this test, you can connect
either one as phase A and B, it doesn't matter. If the motor runs the wrong
direction, swap the two wires of either phase at the driver, and the motor
will run the opposite direction.
