The 48 volt or even an 80 volt power supply only indicates the voltage that
the power supply will produce with no load. What this does is make the rise
time of the current very fast and when the current reaches the set amount
the chopper drive cuts power until the current falls below another point at
which time power is again turned on. This happens at around 20 kHz.
The 2 volt 12 amp spec just tells you that if you apply 2 volts to the
winding, if your supply is capable of holding 2 volts you will pull 12 amps.
