I am partial to Tek scopes also. The 465, 475, and 485 are long standing
popular portable analog units. Some came with digital multimeter built on
too. Generally selling for a couple hundred these days. The limitation of
these is they are only two channel. Sometimes you want to look at 3 or 4
signals at once. In this case you jump up in price for a portable or go to
a considerably bigger case with plugi-ns.

The newer digital scopes are much easier to use and far more portable in
their handheld, LCD screen versions. However, you are looking at $1000 to
$2000. Both Tek and Fluke are well known.

You can also get cards that plug into your PC. I don't know if there are
any that work with a laptop.
