I've been playing with the Russian CAM program SprutCAM. Its the
first higher end CAM program I've seen that is user friendly. It
supports a bunch of roughing, finish and rest strategies. The post
processor is configurable and was not to hard to make Master5
compatible. It imports most model types.
There is a tutorial and documentation but they are on the weak side
(still better than MasterCAM) and you will have to work a bit to get
the hang of it. There is also an occasional dialog box in Russian but
its super easy once you get it. Its faster and easier to generate
tool paths in Sprutcam than STLworks.
The code out of the post is pretty compact. My part was organic with
a lot of curves and ridges. The G-code included a lot of curve
segments. There were not a bunch of short line sequnences.
Cost is around $2,000 although there is a full student version
available for $650. There is a downloadable demo.

I'm not associated with SprutCAM, just real impressed.
