Just a note about the high speed mini die grinders that show up in
Harbor Freight and Enco. They look attractive since the spindle
speeds are high (50,000+) and the diameter is small. It looked like
a perfect solution to use with a diamond rotary tool and do some
engraving on glass. The bearings are not precision and any lateral
forces on the tool will deflect the cut significantly. It will not
do presision work. It probably works well as a die grinder (go
figure). I use the handpiece off of a commercial flex shaft tool.
It is 1" OD and made to take the 18,000 rpm I subject it to.
