Eric,
I attend a local tech school machine shop class. I was amazed to find that
the student exercise that involves cnc engraving uses a small center drill
for the bit. It seems these cut rather well sidways. If you don't mind a
flat bottom V groove, give it a try.
I am an engaver by trade and use normal V cutters.
