Side effects to running servo motors 1:1 ???

Upon looking at my CNC conversion mill/lathe (Sloptask) it seems like
it would be easier right now to run the servo motors 1:1 instead of
3:1 or 4:1 as recommended.

for a short period of time, any problems with doing this?

i'm not worried about speed or torque (as long as the motors can move
the X/Y)
