If the line cord goes to either a 2 or a 3 wire plug, the wider/higher of the
two blades on the plug, is defined by code to be the Neutral connection,
hopefully your receptacles are wired correctly, on the receptacle sides,
there are two screws, one silver in color, the other brass, the silver is the
Neutral and should be white, the Brass is the hot wire, normally black in
most houses, but can legally be any color but white. {Exception} being if it
is a switched receptacle and it is a white feeding from the switch, but it
should be marked with black tape. The ground wire of the 3 wire cord will
normally be green or green/yellow.
