Check that current is actually flowing through the direction pin when its
grounded. May well be the optoisolator or resistor thats gone. I
accidentally blew the resistor on the isolated side of a Gecko 201 about a
year ago and had precisely the same sympton.
In my case I pumped too much current through the pin, I was running the
common at 24 volts and used too low an external resistor in series with the
pin.
I took the case apart bypassed the resistor and used an external one,
everything then worked.
