Thanks for the good information on the Vref, I'm definitely going to look
into it.

I'm not sure if that's my problem though. I was running the motor on the
bench using a clock generator and a power supply. The motor was turning
continuously, so I don't think the Vref circuit that lowers the current
after 100ms would even kick in there.

I'm going to try lowering it anyway and see what I get, anybody got any
other suggestions?
