I'm with you on this. I did at one point go to www.geckodrive.com
and read the stepper motor white papaers. I think I even undertood
what this was all about... for about 10 minutes anyway.

I ended up using servo's and Gecko 320's... its a whole lot easier,
no lost steps, and, in the end, cheaper.
