It has been my experience that it is not possible to get smooth
stepping from a Windows driver/dll because Windows interrupts the
step rate to do housekeeping. It is my experience that the only way
to get smooth stepping from Windows is to use external hardware. I'd
be happy to hear from others if I'm wrong. The DeskWinNC hardware
works very well (I have one). It's not expensive and offloads the G
code through the serial port to a little microcontroller that steps
the motors without interruption. You don't need an "interface card",
but DeskWinNC is a hardware device.
