My series II cnc machine has a ballscrew built into
the quill. Don't know if they would fit a manual
machine, but it is definitely the cleanest way to move
a quill with a motor. Seems like I have seen such a
quill on Ebay, might be wrong.
I was going to put a motor on the knee, but hadn't
thought about a ballscrew. Anybody done this, and, if
so, can we have the details of the ballscrew?
Also, last time I raised the knee, I was blowing
compressed air into the port under the knee screw, and
it really didn't seem to help anything. Any advice on
this subject? Do I have to put some oil in there with
the air?
Tim, I noticed that your machine has some sorta thing
where the knee handle should go. What is that? Did
your machine come stock with a ballscrew on the knee?

I vote for number 4. >>ballscrew on the knee<<
1 - That is how the machine is designed to work
2 - It is very accurate with no backlash (amazing what
ground
ballscrews
driving 1500 lbs or so of knee will do for you)
3 - It already moves fast enough to mess your britches
4 - The point is to produce parts not machine
modifications
