That is the current thought on power supplies for large stepper
and possible small servo systems, where you need something like
40 volts at 10 or more amps?
I see at Dan Mauch's site he lists parts to make a simple linear
supply (transformer, big cap, rectifier) - very similar to what an
outfit I used to work for used for their large audio amps. Thing is
that I've never had good luck personally building a supply, although
it's been years since I last tried it.
Is ripple not really much of an issue? I suppose 60/120 hz would be
slow enough in terms of the chopping frequency that the driver circuit
could easily compensate. And I'm guessing the exact voltage isn't
critical as long as the peaks don't exceed the rating of the MOSFET's
or whatever transistor is used to drive the motors.
