"When using thermosetting epoxy, you need to heat the metal where
you're
trying to bond - otherwise the metal conducts the heat (from the
needed
exothermic reaction) away, and the glue never gets hot enough to
really set
up. How hot to heat it? hot enough that you can't touch it."

MANURE.
Having used several thousand pounds of epoxy, I will tell you make
sure your part is in the tempertaure range for the epoxy chosen.
Most epoxies will cure at a faster rate when they are heated. There
are formulas and graphs for those who care to get technical.
General rules for a good bond - make sure the parts are clean, mix
the epoxy well and in the proper ratios, let the parts fully cure
before stressing the part.
For things small - I will suggest "JB Weld" in one of the 'slow'
formulas and cure in room or slightly above room temperature.
