Re: Where to find CNC machines with dead controls?

on 2002-12-31 08:37:06 UTC
I guess this is still on-topic. I found my shizuoka cnc with a bad
spindle drive and a fanuc 6MB control by contacting a local machinery
dealer and asking for precisely that. I was up front and said I am
looking for good iron with a bad control so that I can retrofit it
with a pc running emc. He had a bridgeport knee mill with servos and
a missing (bandit?) control, and the shizuoka with the 6MB and bad
spindle drive, both for the same price ($2500). I took the Shizuoka,
stripped out the 6MB and sold it for more than $2500 :-)

I didn't tell him that though, because I may want to get a lathe from
him one day. :-)

It seems the machinery dealers do not want to fool around with bad
controls if the replacement parts are going to eat into their
potential profit margin. Fanuc stuff is $$$ to replace, which is why
used Fanuc parts command such a high price.

Hope this gives you some encouragement.
