My balls crackled on my Shoptask (rolled screw no preload) when I first
put them in. It eventually bothered me enough I tore it apart and looked
into it. Ended up being that I had the nuts skewed slightly to the
screws. After I made new adapter collars with the threads square to the
adapter the noise disappeared.
