You'll be fine. I've been using 40v caps with 34 volt supplies for
years. Most would (properly,IMO) suggest a bit more "headroom" than
this, tho'

I don't know why John chose such high voltage, but it might have to
do with the vagaries of the surplus capacitor market. Sometimes an
oversize cap is cheaper than the minimum size required.
