Hans,
You can put an ammeter in series with one of the windings. Use a
battery powered multimeter set to AC amps and step the drive at 240
full steps per second (2.4 kHz). The meter should read 3.5A RMS (5A
peak).
Make sure the drive is not set to the low current range on the option
jumper block. Make sure your resistor is 120K (brown, red, yellow) by
measuring it; it could be 12K instead (brown, red, orange).
The "in-circuit" voltage across the current set resistor should be
about 12VDC for a 5A phase current.
