Let me clarify:

Lets presume a guy has 2/10 thou linear scales (as we do).

Now going to the next hole, he tries to get a setting of
(0.0000 , 0.0000) but that takes a whole minute playing
with the handcranks and drives you nuts, whereas getting
approximately there to (say) (0.0002 . -0.0004 ) justs
takes seconds and is 'good enough' for most things. Time
is money!

To clarify my point, I am suggesting (upon going to the
next point), you take into account he is currently at
(.0002 , -0.0004 ) and not ( 0.0000 ,0.0000 ) when you
add the new offsets. Otherwise the accumulated error
will kill you.

I know you are thinking to yourself (just take the extra
time and set it to 0.0000 , 0.0000 ) but I can tell you
in practice, attention to that level of detail wears off
in a hurry and will be a source of great annoyance if
that is how you need to operate it to avoid accumulated
errors!
