Fantastic idea! You can always wire them in series for less capacitance and
parallel for more. When they
are plentiful and free, it's just an ESR ( effective series resistance )and
physical size issue of how many you can
cram in a box! The ESR rating would be something to watch out for.
Photoflash caps might not have that great
of a rating as they aren't designed to charge and discharge at quite the
rate an EDM would. They might get too
hot in that application. When caps get too hot they like to vent (
literally ) and blow fuzz all over the room.
