Steve,
The easiest way to solve your problem, is to screw a large size eye
hook into an overhead joist, and hang a "Come-Along" from that. A 1000 lb.
"Come-Along" is all you'd need, and they're pretty reasonable in price.

milling fixtures in my shop. What recommendations would you have? Have any
of you built anything like this for your shops? I want to make it to handle
only about 200-300# since that is as big as I can imagine I will need to
lift at this time. Work area around my machines is too tight for a fork
lift and I cannot get a a cherry picker's base under the lathe bed. I was
thinking about something mounted behind the lathe and or mills or from the
ceiling.
