It sounds like what you want is plain 2-1/2 D milling to profile out the
part. Visual Mill free does not offer the ability to do that. In the
Visual Mill line you have to have Visual Mill 4.0 to do 2-1/2 D work.
There are many other packages that would do what you want. I would
suggest taking a look at DeskCNC. It will accept a .dxf and allow you to
create tool paths to pocket and profile. It will also do much more.
