Well, someone suggested I design my pendant to be wireless, and at
first I thought that might be a safety compromise, but now it
sounds like a really good idea. It would certainly have to be set
up to engage estop if you ever lost your signal. But, with an
estop on the pendant, you could clip it to your belt and run with
it if you needed to, and who cares if you go too far and the
machine estops as a result. Once you were safe you could slam the
button, wherever you ended up.

My solution is to mount E-stop switches at the doorway and in

other room in the shop.
This way you can also hit the switch if I hear strange noises from
another room or as you duck out.
As for the tendancy to "run from the room" I have the opposite
problem, diving onto the table to save my cutter or that expensive
hunk of brass before I even think of pressing the E-stop.
Almost lost a few fingers that way last summer. :<
But I did save the $2000 injection mold insert. :)
