I could also recommend my free program bmp2cnc. It's at:

You'll want to get the file "bmp2cnc-0.22.tgz". This program is a command line
utility that reads .bmp graphics files and outputs gcode. It's not pretty,
but it works and the code output is pretty well optimized (If I do say so
myself... ;) )
