Hi Peter

There is a free program you can use to convert
point cloud files to .stl

Do a search on "points to poly" with your favorite search engine.

I have been using it in conjunction with the free version of Visual
Mill. It works great! My university has a really neat 3-d laser
scanner that I pull point cloud data from.

I would like to be able to take the .stl and extrude the surface. So
far I hae not found a way. I have access to solid works, mastercam,
and pro-e. If anyone knows how to extrude an .stl surface, possibly
into a solid, I would love to hear from you!

Best,

Matthew
